Sons Island

We are still in the pandemic of the coronavirus. Summer is looking different for us. More isolated and less busy. But, I did research and found this cool camping place near San Marcos. It is called, Sons Island. I figured camping was safe and distanced from people. So, we packed up and headed to Sons Island for a long weekend.

It started off just me and the kids...a mom trip! Then my good friends Haley and Kristen decided to join. Well, their husbands wanted to join too. Scott couldn't since he's already taking off work for other vacations. So, it ended up being a great group of really special friends.

It was real camping. In a tent with a fan! It was hot, but so perfect. We rented cabanas during the day. We did a day at their river campsite. Then, drove 20 minutes to spend a day at their lake campsite. It was such an adventure! The cabanas were so cute...like we weren't in Texas. It felt like a true vacation! July 2nd....was the 2nd year anniversary of Dads passing. It was also Moms 75th birthday!! It's still so heartwarming that dad died on moms birthday! Just a reminder that Gods timing is always perfect. What a tribute of dads love and dedication to mom. Gosh, I miss them both deeply.

We rented water pad floats, which was the favorite activity of the vacation. We also rented kayaks. It was such a fun weekend on the water. Swimming, eating, floating, playing and loads of laughter! The moms had more fun than the kids! We cooked dinner and ate in the cabanas over the water. It was great!

We detoured a bit to Gigi's house since she lives in San Marcos. We spent the night and enjoyed time with her. A short and sweet visit. Then, finished off the weekend with a very safe, distanced and masked visit with Mimi. Scott's 90 year old grandmother, who we adore! It was a great long weekend, and we made it home to celebrate 4th of July with Scott!
