Historic Freeze

HOLY COW!!!! History was made. The coldest it has ever been in Houston. 20 degrees!! Felt like much colder. The hard freeze storm stopped Houston in our tracks. February 18, 2021. It came out of nowhere and the city was put on pause.

Most of the city lost power and water. For days and days!!! It was miserably cold and dark. Not able to shower or flush our toilets. It was like being stuck in a twilight zone. Full of snow. REAL snow!! We are still in apartment so we made fires in our firepit table. And carried buckets all day from our apartment pool to fill our toilets. The dogs were cold and thirsty. We rationed our food, gas, water! It was crazy.

6 days later...power restored and we slowly repaired the damage. Peoples houses were destroyed from busted pipes. Our house was thankfully fine, but many others were not. So we helped where we could. I gave away all of our furniture since I bought new stuff for the house. Families came to get our couches, beds, towels, dishes. I was honored to donate to people who were in desperate need.

With covid still in motion, however it is definitely improving...people were hesitant to gather at houses, etc. But, we did. No hesitation on our end, since life has been in full swing for months for us. Other parts of the city were forced back to community...which honestly, I think was the silver lining.

We survived!! Another feather in our hat for weird things we have experienced lately. We are in the final days of completing our house, but this slowed it down! Everything, everyone was put in emergency mode. So, we wait in our packed apartment. Life continues to unfold...one crazy chapter at a time.
